Carl Houston Hale was born July 31, 1917 in Millington, Tennessee to Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Hale.
At a very young age his parents moved to Arkansas and there he grew up in Terrell, Arkansas and worked as a sharecropper farmer for many years. In 1941 he married Rosie Lee Johnson and to this union twelve children were born five sons and seven daughters. Because of lack of education, he had to work in the cotton field sharing various crops with others; working from sun up to sun down to support his family of fourteen.
In the early 70's, he and his family moved to West Memphis, Arkansas and became an employee at a local grocery store where he worked until retirement in the early 80's. In 1993 he faced the most difficult time of his life and suffered a massive stoke that left him totally dependant on others and shortly after he was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. Because he became incapacitated he could know longer care for himself. He was then moved to Detroit, Michigan to receive care by his daughter, Betty Adams.
On December 12, 1997 Mr. Hale lost his battle to Prostate Cancer. Because of his death the C.H. Hale Prostate Cancer Foundation was formed in his memory. The purpose of the foundation is to educate and raise awareness on the battle of Prostate Cancer as well as to encourage men to have their PSA testing done and to promote measure for better health. Through his death, I hope all men and their families might have longer and better quality of life.
